Horses
are very intelligent animals. Many people believe in the
"Old Cowboy" way of training. Teach the horse to respect
you by causing it pain. At Diamond G Acres, we believe
in just the opposite. We believe they learn by showing
them respect. We have a resistance free style of
training. We spend a lot of time on ground work, gaining
the horses respect and trust. After that we will move
into "give and take". We will ask the horse to do some
thing and hold steady pressure until they finally give
to the pressure. This in turn shows them that if they do
the exercise correctly, then they are rewarded by the
release of pressure. If they fail, then we will take
control and apply more pressure until they finally give.
We require at least 30 days of training on a young
horse, but we strongly recommend at least 60 days. That
gives the horse the time to fully understand the basics
and then it allows the rider to learn from us, so when
the horse is taken home the same training concepts can
continue. Benefiting both the horse and the rider.
We not only specialize in training unbroke horses, we
also give riding lessons, as we call it "reminder
courses" giving the horse a little refresher at the
beginning of each season. We also have clinics for
events such as barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying.
Eventually we will add rough stock clinics as well.
